Additional classroom inaugurated at Poongulam
school!
The additional classroom sponsored by Bank of
India was formally inaugurated at the Panchayat
Primary School, Poongulam village by Shri.G.S.
Iyer, Additional General Manager, Bank of India,
Chennai Zone on January 7, 2008.
The extension
building measuring about 300 sq.ft. was
completed in a record time of 70 days under the
supervision of Shri G.Sivaraman, the head of the
Village Education Council (Grama Kalvi Kuzhu) &
President of Poongulam Village Development
Federation
Welcoming the guests, Shri Thyagarajan, former
President of Veedhividangan Panchayat enumerated
'Vatsalyam' s service initiatives for Poongulam
people and expressed his appreciation for the
Chennai-based NGO.
Shri.Manimaran, former MLA & Chairman, Panchayat
Union described how the school came into being
against all odds. Referring to the additional
classroom as a gift to the people of Poongulam,
he urged the parents to fully involve themselves
in the activities of the school and extend their
wholehearted cooperation so that the school
emerged as a model school in the area.
Shri. Jayaprakash, President Veedhividangan
Panchayat expressed happiness over the steady
growth of the school and expressed hope that
community endeavours of this kind should become
a nationwide movement.
Shri G.S Iyer, Addnl. GM, Bank of India outlined
his Bank's role in rural development and assured
all assitance for community friendly endeavours in
the future.
Balachandran, General
Secretary, Vatsalyam recorded his appreciation and
thanks to Bank of India for the sensitivity shown
to the needs of rural community.
Ms. Vasuki, the headmistress of the school
proposed the vote of thanks.
